Some big names eliminated in day 1a include Scott Clements, Eric Froehlich, Jonathan Little, Hasan Habib, Ted Lawson, Lyle Berman, and David Williams. Leading the way is Billy Baxter, and right behind him in chips is Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken. Rounding out the top 10 are Steve Billirakis, Brandon Cantu, Abe Mosseri, Dario Minieri, and Jim Bechtel, among others.
Last year's winner Carlos Mortensen defeated Kirk Morrison heads up. Mortensen earned almost $4,000,000 for his win, and became the first player to win the World Series of Poker Main Event and the World Poker Tour championship.
Day 2 begins in the morning where the remaining players from Day 1a and 1b will make one larger field, and will eventually play down to the biggest final table of the year
