Jason Mercier Wins EPT San Remo
Jason Mercier Wins EPT San Remo
Posted on April 7, 2008 by Seth YoungAmerican Jason Mercier, known online as treysfull21, took down the top prize of $1.3 million at the European Poker Tour in San Remo, Italy, in one of the quickest final tables in EPT history, lasting only 3 hours.
Coming into the final table, Italian superstar Dario Minieri had the chiplead and all the confidence in the world. That wouldn't help him, though, as a string of hands put him out in third place.
The first elimination was Markus Bower, who moved his short stack all-in with 44. Anthony Lellouche called with AJ, and the Ace on the river sent Bower packing with just over $100,000.
Next to go was Slovakian Dag Palovic, a final table force at the EPT this season. He earned $175,000 after busting with QQ to Dario Minieri's 33 on a 2-3-6 flop.
William Thorson busted next when his AQ failed to improve against Jason Mercier's AK. The flop was K-6-5, none of Thorson's suit, and the Scandinavian was out in 6th place for $216,000.
Gregory Genovese was the next player out, earning $291,000, after his 9-10 failed to improve against his opponent's A3 on an ace high board.
Eric Koskas was the 4th place finisher, pushing all-in with T3 on a J-6-5-8-8 board. Jason Mercier made the call of his life with 9-5 to win the massive pot with bottom pair and eliminate Koskas in 4th for $345,015.
Dario Minieri was eliminated by Jason Mercier on a 7 high board with 2 diamonds; Minieri had QQ and Mercier had Ad4d for the nut flush draw. The diamond hit the river, and Mercier scooped the massive pot to take a chip lead into heads up play. Minieri earned $443,767.
Anthony Lellouche was the runner up, earning roughly $780,000. He and Mercier got all-in with Lellouche's 77 against Mercier's KQ. The Q on the flop sealed the deal for the 21 year old American, and Mercier had become a millionaire.
