Gus Hansen Leads At WPT Championship
Gus Hansen Leads At WPT Championship
Posted on April 23, 2008 by Seth Young
The Great Dane - Gus Hansen - is sitting at the top of the leaderboard by a comfortable margin in the World Poker Tour's $25,000 buy-in championship event at the Bellagio. Here are the top 10 in chips:
1. Gus Hansen -- 2,246,000
2. Cory Carroll -- 1,900,000
3. David Chiu -- 1,231,000
4. Martin de Knijff -- 856,000
5. Nick Binger -- 829,000
6. Tom Dwan -- 805,000
7. Peter Neff -- 781,000
8. Jeff Shulman -- 771,000
9. Mark Newhouse -- 770,000
10. Robert Mizrachi -- 701,000
Mark Newhouse appears in the top 10, and he's got an extremely large amount of people rooting for him to go deep. After winning over $1.5 million at the Borgata World Poker Tour, he had a very rough year at the tables. Further, he had loaned out large amounts of money to people he thought were good friends, never to be repaid. A $4,000,000 payday would be karma for one of the nice guys in the poker world.
Sitting second in chips is Cory Carroll, a fantastic tournament player with impressive live and online results.
David Chiu is a Full Tilt Poker pro, and Martin di Knijff has exploded back onto the scene in a big way with his deep run in this event. De Knijff came to prominence in the early years of the poker boom at the World Series of Poker, and has since fallen off of the radar, working mostly on the business side with his website Martins Poker.
Nick Binger is the brother of Michael Binger, and he's been going deep in just about every tournament he enters lately. Coming in 6th in chips is online poker's poster boy Tom Dwan, the poker genius with millions in the bank already.
Peter Neff, #1PEN, comes in at 7th in chips with Jeff Shulman of Cardplayer fame coming in behind him in 8th. 10th in chips is Robert Mizrachi, brother of Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi.
