All Japan Poker Championship Starts
Posted on April 28, 2008 by Seth YoungThe All Japan Poker Championship (AJPC) started yesterday, April 27th, in Tokyo, Japan. This is the second annual poker event, and last year's event attracted hundreds of Japanese poker enthusiasts from around the country.
Casinos are not allowed to operate in Japan, but the Japanese government is strongly considering legalizing them. This year at the AJPC, though, no real money will be wagered. It's basically a freeroll where the winner will receive a $10,000 entry into the World Series of Poker, along with flight and accommodations.
The main sponsor of the AJPC is the SEGA SAMMY group, world-renowned for its gaming-related hardware and software. The event is planned and organized by Global Mix, a consulting firm which specializes in casino-related businesses, events and media.
